Exploring Invisible Identities in a Binary World

A 3-hour workshop for anyone who is white-assumed and multi-ethnic, racial, and/or cultural. We will explore and process themes such as reclaiming lost/eradicated culture, the impacts of being misidentified or unseen, and the benefits of being multi-racial/ethnic/cultural.

The intention of this workshop:

Each co-presenter has unique lived experiences of being white assumed/presenting and multi-ethnic/racial/cultural. These experiences, though sometimes protective, also erase entire aspects of ourselves. We recognize the need for a place to process these experiences in a community separate from people who are solely white/Caucasian, and from those that are visibly melanated. We seek to provide an encouraging environment to explore how we can show up as anti-racist while admitting that we have advantages from being white assumed/presenting. Participants are invited to share and discuss both individual and collective experiences towards greater understanding, and hopefully, expansion and support.

What can you expect from participating?

This workshop will consist of an awareness/grounding exercise, an overview of 4-5 related topics, group discussion, somatic tracking, and an experiential activity involving writing, image-making, music, and/or movement. Depending on the total size of participants, we may break out into smaller groups to allow adequate time for each person to share.⁣⁣
